life may not be a song, may not even be a movie or a book.

but, with a little work and a lot of love, it can absolutely be beautiful.

There are a lot of people in the world today that do not believe in miracles. People think that the only ones who see things as miracles are those who are religious or believe in God. To believe in something, whether it be a religion or even just the idea that there is something greater than us, is in fact an amazing quality, but the truth is you don’t necessarily need that to believe in miracles.

What I think, and you have to promise not to yell at me for saying this, is that we have gotten greedy. I’m sure everyone can all agree that there are things in our lives that we take for granted. What I also think, what I also believe, is that in every single day there are thousands of little miracles that have become so normal, so routine, that we don’t even notice them anymore. In our culture, miracles have become only the grand happenings, only when two hundred children are saved from a burning school or a fifty car pile up results in only minor, uncomplicated injuries. Maybe we have become so greedy, we now fail to acknledge the little things. What a shame it is, to see only big actions as miracles and allow every other amazing moment to pass by as just another ordinary part of our day.

No matter what religion you believe or don’t believe in, no matter your ideas on the meaning of life or what we are made of as human beings, nobody can disagree with the fact that it is incredibly amazing that we are even here in the first place. Every single day, every waking moment, is a miracle. There are so many things in this world that are against us, so many illnesses, so many disagreements and misunderstands that lead to death and destruction and hatred. Yet, amidst all the negativity in the world, despite everything pushing against us, we all still awoke this morning, and we are all still here. You, are still here. Is it not a miracle that just by moving muscles and joints in our legs we are able to travel from one place to another? Or that by breathing and moving the chords inside of our throats we can express emotions and feelings that we hold inside? Or even simpler, how about the fact that the way somebody uses their voice can make us laugh, the way that somebody strums tightened metal stings can make us cry, or the fact that no matter what, every single day, the sun still rises and people still move? Most of all, isn’t it a miracle that everything we could ever need as human beings, ever, we have here on this earth? Anything that makes us happy, anything that makes us feel or think or do is a miracle. Because without every single little thing that allows us live, we would die, and it truly is a miracle to be alive.

When you begin to take every day as a gift and start to live life more thankfully, you allow yourself to see every action as a miracle and every new moment more amazing than the last. And in my heart, there is no other way I would rather spend my miracle of living than by being thankful for every second that I have it.
